Terms of use

The written framework: what we do with the money entrusted to us, the fees we announce, and what we commit to. These terms and the « Where your money goes » page work as a pair.

BetterWorld is a company, not a registered charity. We cannot issue receipts for tax purposes. When you finance a project through BetterWorld, we act as an intermediary: we transmit the money to the organization you chose, we keep a share announced in advance, and we publish the proof.

1. Acceptance

By using betterworldmovement.org, you accept these terms. If you disagree, please do not use the site.

2. What BetterWorld is

BetterWorld is a private company registered in Quebec (NEQ 2281941809). It is not an association, not a non-profit, and not a registered charity. It operates a resource directory, free guides and tools, a shop, and a platform that transmits contributions to selected organizations.

3. Financing a project - our role

When you finance a project through BetterWorld, you choose the project and the split. BetterWorld acts as a temporary intermediary, not as the final recipient.

  • The share intended for the organization does not belong to BetterWorld. It appears in our books as an amount owed to that organization until it is transferred.
  • It is not used for any other purpose - in particular, not for BetterWorld expenses. Each contribution is recorded with the share owed to the organization, separately, from the moment it is received.
  • The BetterWorld share is the only amount that belongs to BetterWorld on the transaction. It runs and builds BetterWorld - payment fees, hosting, tools, development, and the actions BetterWorld carries out itself for the mission. It is declared and taxed as revenue.
  • The split in effect is announced before you contribute and published on the Where your money goes page. It is never discovered afterwards.
  • Each transfer is published with its proof within 30 days.

4. No tax receipt

Only a registered charity may issue a receipt for tax purposes. BetterWorld is not one. A contribution made through BetterWorld gives no right to a tax receipt and is not deductible.

5. Choice of organizations

We only fund an organization whose legal existence is verifiable, and we record the verification date. The selection policy is published in full on the transparency page. If an organization does not provide proof of receipt, the transfer still appears publicly, marked as awaiting proof, and that organization is not funded again until the situation is resolved.

6. Cancellation and errors

A contribution can be cancelled as long as it has not been transferred to the organization: write to us and we refund the full amount, BetterWorld share included. Once transferred, the amount is no longer in our hands. A monthly donation can be stopped whenever you want, with no reason to give and no minimum duration: from your donation management page (billing.stripe.com, where Stripe sends you a login link by email), or by writing to contact@betterworldmovement.org. The month already paid runs to its end, and nothing is charged after that. In the event of a technical error on our side, we correct it and publish the correction.

7. Shop, guides and affiliate links

Purchases in the shop and paid guides are ordinary commercial sales: the full amount is BetterWorld revenue. Some links are affiliate links, at no extra cost to you; this is disclosed on the dedicated page. Return, refund and delivery terms are specified at the time of order.

8. Resources and external links

The directory gathers third-party resources for convenience. We work to keep it accurate, but we cannot guarantee the availability, accuracy or eligibility conditions of each one. Always confirm directly with the organization. In an emergency, call 911 or the appropriate official services.

9. General guidance, not professional advice

Guides and tools provide general guidance and do not replace personalized professional advice (legal, financial, medical). Our tools run entirely on your device and we never receive what you enter in them.

10. Intellectual property

The BetterWorld name, logo and original content are protected. You may not reproduce them without authorization. Third-party trademarks and content remain the property of their respective owners.

11. Limitation of liability

The site is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, BetterWorld cannot be held liable for damages arising from use of the site or of the listed resources. Nothing here limits our obligation to transfer the amounts owed to organizations.

12. Personal information

No contributor name is ever published. Our handling of personal information is described in the privacy policy.

13. Changes

These terms may change. The date above always indicates the version in force, and past versions of the transparency page remain available.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable in Quebec, Canada.
