Where your money goes

This page reports on our commitment: what BetterWorld receives in contributions, what it gives to organizations, and the proof of each payment.

BetterWorld is a private company with a social purpose, not a registered charity. We cannot issue tax receipts. You support BetterWorld. For contributions made for organizations, BetterWorld commits to give at least 85% of them, and no payment is published here without its proof.

Our commitment

Your contribution is paid to BetterWorld and becomes its revenue. For a contribution made for organizations, we make this commitment:

  • 85% at least, given to organizationsWe choose the organizations. What you tell us guides our choices, without assigning your contribution to a specific cause. Calculated on the gross amount: payment fees are ours to cover.
  • 15% at most, to keep BetterWorld runningThe tools, the website, payment fees, and the income of the person behind BetterWorld. We would rather say it than leave you guessing.

A contribution made for BetterWorld's mission goes to BetterWorld in full: it is not part of this commitment, and the donation page says so before payment.

Commitments in progress

Commercial promises we made, and where they stand.

No commercial commitment in progress.

How we select organizations

We only fund an organization whose legal existence can be verified: official registration number, active address and website, documented activity. We check that number against the registry of its home country before any payment, and we record the verification date. We rule out any organization that refuses to provide proof of receipt, publishes no activity report, or whose mission conflicts with fundamental rights. What contributors tell us they care about guides our choices without binding them. The final decision rests with BetterWorld's management; it is published here with its date.

Check for yourself

You don't have to take our word for it. Here is where to check.

As soon as an organization is funded, its legal name, registration number and official record will appear here.

Our operating rules

  • The giving commitment is calculated on every contribution received for organizations, and what remains to be given is published here.
  • Our commitment is announced before you contribute, never discovered afterwards.
  • Every payment will be published here with its proof, within 30 days of being made.
  • No impact figure is published without its source and method.
  • No contributor name is ever published.

Honest questions

Does the money I contribute belong to BetterWorld?
Yes. Your contribution becomes BetterWorld revenue. Made for organizations, it carries BetterWorld's commitment to give at least 85% of it to organizations it chooses, and what remains to be given is published here. Made for BetterWorld's mission, it goes to BetterWorld in full.
Do I choose the organization?
No. You can tell us what matters to you, and it guides our choices, but your contribution is not assigned to a specific cause. BetterWorld chooses the organizations, and every payment will be published here with its proof.
What does BetterWorld keep?
At most 15% of the contributions made for organizations, once the giving commitment is met, and all of the contributions made for its mission. It keeps BetterWorld running: the tools, the website, payment fees, and the income of the person behind it. We would rather say it than leave you guessing.
Why isn't BetterWorld a registered charity?
BetterWorld is a company. That status lets us build tools, a shop and resources quickly, without depending on grants. In exchange, we cannot issue tax receipts, and we publish this page so that the flow of money is verifiable anyway.
Can I deduct my contribution from my taxes?
No. Only a registered charity may issue a receipt for tax purposes, and BetterWorld is not one.
How do you know the money was actually used?
We publish our own confirmation of each payment, and we ask each organization for a receipt and, where possible, a written report. Everything we receive is published in the Proof column, with personal details redacted.
What happens if an organization provides no proof?
The payment still appears here with our own payment confirmation. But that organization receives nothing more from us until it provides a receipt.
Why are some figures marked “declared”?
Because the organization gave us the figure and we could not verify it independently. Saying so is more useful than presenting it as certain.
